Extracts from Annual Reports

Caring for Paths

Ashford Group has long been active in protecting and enhancing the local rights of way network.  The following extract from the Group's 2004-05 annual report illustrates the commitment of the Group's volunteers.

"... our involvement in the fieldwork which we carry out with the blessing of KCC, meeting on the third Tuesday morning of each month (weather permitting) to repair stiles or footbridges, install waymarking and clear vegetation. We have 8 volunteers at present and would welcome more to take part in this satisfyingly constructive exercise which helps us to help ourselves and others to enjoy the countryside."

And the following is from the 2006-07 annual report:

"We have an active fieldwork team who meet regularly and carry out footpath work as required in conjunction with Kent County Council Public Rights of Way Department who allocate the finance and materials for the projects. We have achieved considerable success in these matters over the last twelve months.

"The majority of footpaths in our area have been surveyed during the last year as a part of the Head Office initiative with problems logged and reported. This survey work has been carried out during some of the programmed walks but in the main by a few stalwart members to whom we are very grateful."

Please join the Ramblers to support this work.  Our volunteers need your encouragement.
