Sevenoaks
Group was formed in 1987. Membership has grown steadily and is now
approaching 450. Like most Groups we have a core of highly active
members. Walking predominates but the Group's social side is also
enthusiastically supported.
Members
enjoy a full and varied programme of walks designed to suit all tastes.
These range from half day strolls of 5 miles or so to
full day rambles varying from 10 to 15 miles in length. We usually
offer a choice of two or even three walks on Sundays, of varying
lengths. There are also midweek walks, mainly on Wednesdays and in the
summer, we have a number of weekday evening rambles. Mostly we walk
within a 20 mile radius of Sevenoaks but our programme also
includes a few walks in other parts of the South East for the more
adventurous.
To
supplement our weekly walking, members can take advantage of our ever
popular walking weekends and walking weeks in parts of the country away
from the South East. Recently there have been visits to Brecon and
Melrose.
An
important ingredient in our walking is the socializing that takes place
over lunch, usually at a choice village pub. This is in tune with the
lively social side of the Group's activities. Recent examples from our
programme are visits to the openair theatre at Hever, a jazz
evening on the Medway, tenpin bowling and a barbecue, as well as
pub suppers on the second Thursday of each month.
