White Cliffs Group
White Cliffs Group, named after the famous Dover
landmark, covers a varied area from the fields and cliffs of Thanet to
the wide landscapes of the Romney Marsh. Behind the shoreline lie the downlands of Folkestone and
Dover, the picturesque Elham and Alkham Valleys and the rich farmlands
and orchards around the historic towns of Sandwich, Deal and Hythe.
We have over
500 members in our Group, of which some 100 people are regular walkers.
We try to achieve a varied programme with walks from 2.5 to over 30
miles, breakfast and evening walks in the Summer, and special events
such as “pudding” and “curry” walks where we reward ourselves
for our physical exertions with a thoroughly greedy feast afterwards.
Through a mixture of persuasion and training we have
increased our number of leaders, so that there is often a choice of
short and longer walks on Sundays, most with a pub stop for lunch. We walk regularly on Sundays and Thursdays, and arrange
occasional weekend and week long trips away from our home patch each
year both in UK and abroad. Our
location gives us excellent opportunities for trips to France, either
for the annual Boulogne-Calais challenge walk, or for a French lunch
followed by a walk around the local area to take in points of interest.
