The Cathedral City of Canterbury is a perfect centre for walking. Two train stations and an excellent bus service provide access to the local countryside.

Two long distance paths go through the city, the North Downs Way and the Stour Valley Walk and the Saxon Shore Way passes along the Whitstable Oyster Coast.

Canterbury Area offers a diverse variety of walking, including downland, marsh, woodland and coast.

Sunday is our main walking day on which we try to offer 2 walks of varying lengths, full day circular walks, averaging 10 miles or half day walks of around 5 to 6 miles. At least once a month there are mid-week walks and evening walks in the summer.

We have regular social events such as wine and wisdom evenings, croquet and talks by members sharing their experiences of walking in far off places such as Nepal. We are regular contributors to local festivals such as the annual Canterbury Festival and Whitstable's Oyster Festival, walk in France with Les Randonneurs du Plat Pays and enjoy UK and European holidays with interesting walks and sightseeing

As with other Groups, members of Canterbury Group have been active looking after paths in their area - see extracts from their annual reports.

The red outline on the map shows the extent of the Group's area.  New members within this area are allocated to Canterbury Group unless they choose otherwise.  Members can be allocated to whichever Group they choose but can in any case join any walk organised by any Group whether in Kent or elsewhere in Great Britain.
